Our contribution to society must respect our environment and ensure the sustainable use of the planet’s finite natural resources. We know that a healthy environment is critical for human health.
Ambition Zero Carbon
Through its Ambition Zero Carbon strategy, AstraZeneca is pursuing ambitious, science-based decarbonisation targets, accelerating progress towards net-zero, and managing the risks and opportunities presented by climate change.
The Company is on track to reduce GHG emissions from its global operations and fleet (Scope 1 and 2) by 98% by 2026 from a 2015 baseline.
AstraZeneca aims to halve its entire value chain footprint (Scope 3) by 2030, on the way to a 90% absolute emissions reduction from a 2019 baseline and becoming science-based net zero by 2045 at the latest.
AstraZeneca was one of the first seven companies globally to have its net-zero targets verified by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Corporate Net-Zero Standard.
Through AZ Forest, we will support high-quality, nature-based solutions to remove the residual emissions we have not eliminated, reduced or substituted, no greater than 10% of our 2019 emissions footprint.
Water stewardship program
Here we are reusing RO reject water in Purified water system, have integrated Rainwater Harvesting and a Water monitoring system for Critical areas. Instillation of E-pump has helped us conserve and re-use water as much as possible. At the organisation level as well, we are working with our partner organisation Environmentalist Foundation of India (EFI) since the year 2019. We started two water body conservation and revival project by removing weeds, excess silt and connecting channels that to aid the flow of water alongside planting native tree saplings etc.
Solar Panels
At India Operations, we consciously took an initiative to accelerate the renewable energy productivity targets in power and heat by installing more than 1176 Solar panels in our factory premises. This solar array will provide maximum of our energy requirement of the manufacturing site at Bengaluru. This will also result in the reduction of more than 20000 tons of CO2 Emission over system’s Lifetime. ~90% Site energy is achieved by Renewable energy.
